AVIATION DESIGN »

Location: Morristown, New Jersey
Client: Morristown Municipal Airport
Completion Date: 2007

 TSPE designed a full-depth reconstruction of Taxiway A (north of Runway 13-31) and Taxiway B (west of Taxiway A). The total pavement areas included Taxiway A (4,320 ft x 60 ft), Taxiway B (2,935 ft x 60 ft), Taxiway K (170 ft x 25 ft), Taxiway C (170 ft x 60 ft) and Taxiways F, G and H (each 330 ft x 60 ft).

The design parameters included reducing the taxiway widths from 60 to 50 feet and incorporating Group III aircraft geometric requirements. The reduction of the pavement widths required the relocation of the existing edge lighting systems and the airfield signs. All electrical replacements were base-mounted lights with cables in conduit. TSPE also completed the design of all drainage improvements within the project area, prepared a Soil Conservation District Permit Application, and coordinated the NJDEP Multi-Use Individual Permit Application and associated Wetland Permits through the use of subconsultants.

TSPE provided construction inspection services for the full-depth repair of Taxiway A (north of Runway 13-31) and Taxiway B (west of Taxiway A). The total pavement areas included Taxiway A (4,320 ft x 60 ft), Taxiway B (2,935 ft x 60 ft), Taxiway K (170 ft x 25 ft), Taxiway C (170 ft x 60 ft) and Taxiways F, G and H (each 330 ft x 60 ft). The project included drainage improvements, an edge lighting system, airfield signs, working in and around wetlands, removal of contaminated soils and extensive phasing to keep the airfield operational.
