Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation: (Transportation Contract No. 15-513) Tuckahoe Road (CR36) Rehabilitation Winnebago Road to Bronx River Parkway, City of Yonkers, NY

The project rehabilitated Tuckahoe Road (Westchester County Route No. 36) from Winnebago Road to the Bronx River Parkway, a distance of 0.17 miles in the City of Yonkers, at an estimated cost of $330,000. The project work included: milling existing asphalt concrete pavement overlay; concrete pavement repairs; filling and sealing joints and cracks; resurfacing with asphalt concrete; installation of new pavement markings; replacing traffic signal loops; installation of ADA compliant sidewalk ramps; repairing catch basins; replacing catch basin frames and grates; replacing damaged curb & driveways; reviewing roadside safety & drainage conditions. The design plans included detailed Work Zone Traffic Control Plans to perform construction during off peak weekday hours utilizing lane shifts and one lane roadway operations.

Rehabilitation of Palmer Road & Bridge

Provided Design and Construction Administration services for this project. The subject area is located along Palmer Road from Saw Mill River Road to Central Park Avenue (CR 100) and also included the bridge carrying Palmer Road over Central Park Avenue.

The project goal was to rehabilitate Palmer Road by pavement milling and asphalt resurfacing, and performing miscellaneous tasks such as adjusting hardware elevations, pavement markings, curb, sidewalk and minor traffic signal work. The bridge rehabilitation consisted of addressing safety issues, the restoration of deteriorated members to As-Built capacity, and the application of protective coatings and other measures to prevent future deterioration. Palmer Road has numerous horizontal and vertical curves which significantly limit sight distance. Factors limiting sight distance include the horizontal curvature of the roadway, presence of vehicles parked along the north shoulder of Palmer Road and the close proximity of the intersection of Palmer Road with Saw Mill River Road.

Ocean Avenue Intersection Improvements

This Federally funded transportation improvement project involved the re-design of the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Merrick Road in Rockville Centre, Nassau County, NY, in order to increase vehicular capacity, upgrade traffic signals and improve roadway geometry.

The project consisted of:

  • Preliminary through final design of geometric improvements
  • Traffic Signals
  • Surveying
  • Acquisition maps
  • Full depth pavement replacement
  • New drainage system
  • Coordination with utilities

As the Prime Consultant, we were responsible for the preparation of the design report, preliminary and final design plans, specifications and construction cost estimate. This project was completed on time and within budget.

I-287 Over Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge Replacement

Design Phases V and VI. GEB was 100% responsible for the mapping and coordination for preliminary and final design including reconstruction, horizontal and vertical alignment of 3 miles of roadway with 3 lanes in each direction plus interchange ramps tying into NYS I-287.

Soil investigations, pavement reconstruction and rehabilitation, symmetric and asymmetric widening of the thruway, Drainage, culverts, utilities, concrete median barriers, overhead signs, pavement markings, safety improvements, lighting and landscaping, extensive maintenance and protection of traffic, sequencing of construction and construction support services throughout construction activities.

Knollwood Road Access Road Repair

The project consisted of engineering design services for the repair of the damage to the Knollwood Road entrance of Westchester Community College. The scope of services included:

  1. Site Observation, meetings, field survey, base mapping and coordination with utilities, meet with College representatives in to coordinate a course of action. Perform topographic field survey of the project area, coordinate the repair with the existing utilities
  2. Prepare plans and specifications, preliminary and final construction plans showing the new roadway/shoulder and any appurtenant structures, such as walkways and manholes, details and specifications.
  3. Response to Requests for information and punch list creation, assist in the construction phase of the project by responding to RFI’s and creating punch lists for remedial action.

Jericho Turnpike, Herricks Rd to NYC Line

Construction Cost: $22,000,000

This project included design phases I-IV for a 4.2 mile long arterial. Tasks performed for the project include: topographic survey, base-mapping, drainage structure, inventory and underground utility location identification. A draft design report was developed based on a dated EPP; it included a new accident analysis, traffic volume turning counts, and intersection and corridor Level of Service analysis. The draft design report included three improvement alternatives which were: performing intersection improvements, adding a third lane in select locations and adding a two-way left turn. The entire project was also evaluated for bicycle lanes. Subsequent to design approval, final design plans were developed including right-of-way acquisitions, over 30 traffic signal replacements, new turning lanes, full depth pavement repairs, milling and filling, drainage repairs, new sidewalks and curbs.

Responsible for the preparation of the design report, preliminary and final design plans, specifications and construction cost estimate. A Phase I Environmental Assessment was performed for the project as well.

Central Avenue Rehabilitation

Develop complete construction contract documents (plans and specifications) associated with the rehabilitation of Central Avenue, County Road (CR) 99, from Harding Avenue to the Greenburgh/White Plains border line.

The rehabilitation work includes:

Milling existing asphalt concrete pavement, filling and sealing joints and cracks, full depth pavement repairs, adjusting castings and utility structures, repairing catch basins, replacing all existing inlet frames and gates, curb repair/replacement, replacing driveway aprons as required, replacing/upgrading traffic signal loops, bus stop improvements, installing ADA sidewalk ramps, addressing drainage issues and roadside safety, resurfacing roadway with asphalt and installing new pavement markings.
